On the heels of International Happiness Day, I revisit the topic of happiness and how we can strive to achieve it. In preparing, I found a recently published article in The Atlantic Monthly that revealed a 70+ year longitudinal study of 280 Harvard men from their sophomore year until present. It’s an unprecedented look at the many facets of their lives and what their bottom line is when it comes to happiness and life satisfaction.

I was inspired by the Supreme Court nomination of Justice Sotomayor to talk about empathy. To my mind, empathy as an emotional competency is misunderstood and has become code for something else. Often it’s confused with sympathy. Today’s segment addresses the differences and how empathy can be a valuable tool in the workplace.
